Letter to Club Members

Dear SPVC Members,

It has been slightly more than 2 years, since the first meetup session of SPVC.

I still remember the day that Soon Bing forwarded me an email stating that over @ cca.sg , some folks were setting up a videography club. So the Kaypoh me went in to join in the fun and everything after that has been a great experience.

Shannon and Kevin, the two presidents before me have handed over to me a club which had been built up with extremely talented people who have done great service to the school through the various means, be it volunteering at Clementi Student Service Centre or by producing numerous video’s for the needs of the community within and outside of SP.

SPVC has grown even further for the past 6 months.

We have collectively done a huge corporate project for NTUC Cleaner’s Day. It was no small feat considering the number of man hours put to it. Yao Wei, Kenny, Kaijun on the camera work and Vicki doing up the neccessary animations.

Also, although every one had tight schedules, various members had volunteered their time to cover the numerous recurrent SP events like lunchshow @ Moberly, International Water Festival, Polyforum etc.

This is the dedication towards the community that I feel proud of for the SPVC family.

From this coming semester onwards, I would be on the internship programme and thus I would not be able to participate in SPVC as actively in SPVC as before

Therefore I have decided to have Vicki to head the club from now on. I would also like to announce that she would be the President of SPVC for the 2010/2011 Academic Year. Vicki has contributed greatly to SPVC with the great talent and flair she has in Videography(btw, she’s one of the top students for digital media). For those who are not aware, she has been the club secretary and had coordinated many of the events the club has held. Also she had been handling other administrative duties such as CCA Point Claims.

I would like to have everyone give their full support behind her to bring SPVC to greater heights.

One other member I would like to highlight, is Yao Wei(Another top student :D ). Yao wei has been the Club’s treasurer and has contributed greatly to the club. He has helped at many high profile events and had risen to the challenge. One such case was when Kaijun fell sick during the international water festival and was not able to turn up. Yao Wei and Kenny collectively coordinated the effort for the event coverage and I feel that that is highly commendable. Yao Wei shall be the Vice President of the 2010/2011 Academic Year.

I believe that by placing the club in the hands in Vicki, assisted by Yao Wei, SPVC will grow to greater heights and become something that even the public can relate to and be a club that we are proud to be part of.

Best Regards
Chan Xiang Ju

SPVC has just taken delivery of our Sony MRC-1K Memory Card Recorder which allows to record to memory cards instead of those pesky tapes!

Sony MRC-1K Memory Card Recorder

Sony MRC-1K Memory Card Recorder

Currently, we have tested it with our Panasonic DVX102BEN and Canon HV30 and has worked seamlessly, except for the fact that the recorder has to be switched on and fully booted up before switching on the dvx102 else there would be problem of recording stopping by itself intermittently or otherwise, it works perfectly.

Great Thanks to Chris from Expandore who helped us troubleshoot the problem we were experiencing.

For the 16gb compact flash card that we bought together with it, we could record 16gb of DV/HDV footage, which is longer than what tape can. A great advantage.

So now, its goodbye to tapes and acquiring footage’s on memory cards. This has speed up our workflow significantly. Currently, we have used it for the polyforum pre-forum activities coverage and it has allowed us to do express highlights, same day edits of footage. Its just basically shoot, import and edit. So simple!

Now, we need harddrives and a NAS to store the footages in digital form :D
