Sony MRC-1K Memory Card Recorder

SPVC has just taken delivery of our Sony MRC-1K Memory Card Recorder which allows to record to memory cards instead of those pesky tapes!

Sony MRC-1K Memory Card Recorder

Sony MRC-1K Memory Card Recorder

Currently, we have tested it with our Panasonic DVX102BEN and Canon HV30 and has worked seamlessly, except for the fact that the recorder has to be switched on and fully booted up before switching on the dvx102 else there would be problem of recording stopping by itself intermittently or otherwise, it works perfectly.

Great Thanks to Chris from Expandore who helped us troubleshoot the problem we were experiencing.

For the 16gb compact flash card that we bought together with it, we could record 16gb of DV/HDV footage, which is longer than what tape can. A great advantage.

So now, its goodbye to tapes and acquiring footage’s on memory cards. This has speed up our workflow significantly. Currently, we have used it for the polyforum pre-forum activities coverage and it has allowed us to do express highlights, same day edits of footage. Its just basically shoot, import and edit. So simple!

Now, we need harddrives and a NAS to store the footages in digital form :D

NTUC Cleaners Day Video

For the past month, SPVC together with SPP has been busy in production of a video for Cleaners Day on the 29th of July. So in the meantime, please bear with us on the lack of updates. We will be back once our production schedule clears up.

Last week we successfully held a basic premiere pro editing workshop for the members. Those who missed it(members or even non members) and are interested in attending another session, let us know and we will plan another one if there is enough interest.

In the days to come, we are even planning to have more advance workshops that would touch on color correction, multi-cam editing etc.

Now, if only Adobe would sponsor us licences to install on school computers for the workshop……

Cheers

Many members have always asked me on whether i can teach them or where they can learn how to use Final Cut Studio which SPVC has a licensed copy installed in its Mac Pro.

The fact is this, Apple has a great tutorial on Final Cut Studio 2 on their website that covers greatly the basic operations of it! So here it is :

On the 15th of April 2009, both new and existing members of SPVC gathered together for an important meeting – the club leadership handover ‘ritual’.

Outgoing committee:

Kevin Xu – President
Sean – Vice President
Soon Bing – Treasurer
Fazli – Secretary

Incoming committee:

Xiang Ju – President
Kai Jun – Vice President
Yao Wei – Treasurer
Vicki – Secretary

Deep appreciations and congratulations to the outgoing committee members (and an outgoing^2 Kevin) for leading the club thus far: for the equipments that you fought for the club; for the welfare you have provided to the club members; and for putting together a mosaic of diversified individuals, growing and learning together with each other, sharing a similar passion and interest.

Thank you!

In the meantime, congratulations to the incoming committee members for having your efforts and contributions to the club given official recognition from the previous committee as well as from the club itself. Thank you for the hard work you have put in and may your leadership bring this club even further, towards a goal we all share.

All the best!

And lastly, for all the members in the club who have been contributing to the club in any way possible, thank you! The club would not have come thus far without dedicated members as well as goal-oriented leaders.

May we strive together for our goals; our dreams and for a better SPVC in 2009/2010!

Yet another achievement

This time by Mabel Leong, our production manager. She has secured a place in the extremely prestigious Berklee College of Music, a premier university for an education in music, and will be graduating from the Diploma in Music and Audio Technology this year, to further her studies in the United States.

Wishing you all the best in America, Mabel!

Congratulations to Leonard

Leonard Chow’s team, won the first prize in the Tertiary Category of the “Living with Dementia” Video Competition organised by the Alzheimer’s Disease Association! Congratulations!

No wonder Leonard is our training manager!
